Automation of Urban Plan Studies
Urban planning studies using figure-ground diagrams are essential in the preliminary design stage of architecture. While manual creation remains indispensable due to site-specific knowledge, automation can complement this process by generating additional variations. This approach broadens the range of possible urban layouts and accelerates design exploration.
Spatial Sufficiency / Living Lab
Integrating the concept of sufficiency into architectural education presents a unique challenge. The objective of this seminar, held within the Department of Design and Sustainable Construction (ENB) at the Technical University of Darmstadt, was to explore and reflect on critical questions: Which spatial configurations are perceived as forms of sacrifice, and what level of "comfort" is deemed indispensable for individuals?
Vacant Plot Detection
The research leverages a database of public geodata from local cadastral offices to sift through numerous available plots. The data is organized and visually represented based on plot size using automated processes exclusively developed with open-source software.
